Teacher FAQ
Everything a teacher asks before saying yes.
No fine-print games. Exactly how partnering with Houston Yogis works — the money, the door, the "what if," and what you actually have to do. New here? Start with the overview.
Getting started
The basics, in plain terms.
What is this, exactly?
You bring a class you already teach. We put it on the Houston Yogis calendar and take prepaid reservations, so people book and pay before class — and you're not collecting Venmo while you're trying to teach.
Do I need my own website?
No. That's the whole point. Houston Yogis is your home on the web. Keep posting on Instagram exactly how you do — just point your link in bio to your Houston Yogis listing.
Do I need special equipment to check people in?
No — a phone is enough. You scan people's QR tickets with your phone's camera. No scanner, no hardware.
What do I actually have to do?
Give us the class details (what, where, when, how many spots), and teach. We handle the reservations, tickets, delivery, and refunds. Low admin — not zero responsibility: the class itself, and anything like a waiver or your own insurance, stays yours.
Your two options
You don't have to change how you work to be on the calendar.
What are my options?
Option A — We run your ticketsFree to list
We take reservations through secure Square checkout, email each person a QR ticket, keep a record of who's coming, and pay you out. No fee to be on the calendar.
Option B — Keep your own linkListing fee
Already use Eventbrite, Partiful, or your own link? Keep it. Your listing's button points to your platform. You pay a flat listing fee to appear on the calendar and reach our audience.
Can I keep using Eventbrite or Partiful?
Yes. That's Option B — we honor your existing link for a listing fee. We're not going to force you off tools you like.
Which option is cheaper for me?
For most classes, letting us run the tickets (Option A) costs you less than doing it yourself on Eventbrite — because the big platforms add a flat per-ticket fee that hits lower-priced classes hard. Run your own numbers on the calculator and see.
The money
Who sets what, who takes what, and when you get paid.
Who sets the ticket price?
You do. It's your class.
What's your cut? How do you make money?
On Option A, we take a small service fee on top of ordinary card processing — and we hold it below what the big ticket platforms charge. On Option B, it's a flat listing fee instead. Either way it's spelled out plainly up front; no surprises in your payout.
When do I get paid?
Twice a month, on a set schedule to start — that's our baseline so you always know when a payout lands. We're working toward faster, even same-day payouts as we bring more payment options online; when that's live for your setup, you'll get it.
How do I get paid, and what's the paperwork?
You come aboard as a 1099 vendor — a normal contractor arrangement, the same way many teaching gigs pay. We settle on a payout method that works for you when you sign on, then we keep the records and handle the payouts on the set schedule.
Can I run a free or donation-based class?
Yes. Alongside fixed-price tickets, you get your own Houston Yogis support page — a personal page with a QR code and link where anyone can chip in a one-time amount you set the tiers for. Run a class as pay-what-you-can, take donations at a free session, or accept ongoing support — share the QR at the door or the link in your bio. Regular fixed-price prepaid tickets are still there for classes you'd rather sell a set seat for; use whichever fits the class.
Refunds & when things change
The "what if?" answers before you trust someone with your class.
What if I have to cancel a class?
Give us 24 hours' notice and we notify everyone who reserved and refund them in full. No penalty for a good-faith cancellation.
What if weather kills an outdoor class?
You make the call by a set time before start; everyone who booked is refunded. We can help you reschedule.
What if an attendee wants a refund?
Standard policy is a full refund up to 24 hours before start, none after. But real life happens — we can work things case by case, give class credit, or make their ticket good for another event.
What about no-shows?
Nobody gets penalized for a no-show. Life happens, and someone who couldn't make it hasn't done anything wrong. Their prepaid spot isn't just gone — it can be honored at a future session, and we sort those out case by case so it stays fair to both you and them. You're still paid for the class you were ready to teach; no awkward "did you pay?" at the door, and no one leaves feeling shorted.
What if my class doesn't sell?
You decide whether to run it. We bring the audience and the tools — we don't guarantee turnout, and we won't pretend to.
What if it sells out?
Reservations close automatically at the capacity you set.
At the door
Checking people in, however your class is set up.
How do I check people in?
Scan tickets with your phone. No dedicated door person? Snap a photo of everyone's QR codes and email them — we turn that into your attendance record. An offline option for spots with no signal is on the way (we'll say so clearly once it's field-tested).
Someone says they never got their ticket.
We resend it. Nobody needs to panic over a QR code.
Your customers & your data
The part the big platforms don't want you to ask about.
Who owns my customer list?
You get a full copy of your attendee data automatically — bundled into your event reports and payouts, no login, no paywall. Unlike a big marketplace that keeps your list locked inside its walls, your customers come with you.
What's your communication and data policy?
Short version: we only communicate to run the classes and ticketing described here — the ticket itself, changes, reminders, and the occasional Houston Yogis community update (with a clear opt-out), all disclosed to people at checkout. We don't sell data, and we don't use it for anything beyond running Houston Yogis. That's it.
What if I decide to leave?
Your future listings come down, and the records you were already given stay yours. No lock-in.
Ready to get a class on the calendar?
Bring one upcoming class. We'll set up your listing and your prepaid reservations.
